Here is the living room before we moved in (complete with pink carpeting and floral swag valances):
We painted first, then ripped out the carpeting. The paint is Benjamin Moore's edgecomb gray on the walls and cloud white on the ceiling (both purchased at Heer's Decorating). We decided to leave the trim in the wood stain. I think it sort of looks more MCM. Am I right?
This is the living room before our family Christmas get together on December 18th (I still can't believe we pulled it off):
It worked out well. But I didn't love the couch cutting off the transition between the living room and dining room.
When my aunt was here last week she had a brilliant idea! We moved the dishes that were in the buffet into the cabinet with the TV. Editing out a piece of furniture made all the difference!
Here is the new layout:
Oh, and I was just playing with the house plant on the table. Its likely not staying there.
It will be interesting to see what the room looks like without the Christmas Tree. We removed and packed up the decorations last night and will move the tree out one day this week. We may need something else under the window. Ideas?
We still need to hang the art above the couch, but I want to be sure we're happy with the layout before we start making holes in the wall.
And, I'm on the lookout for a coffee table. Ideally, one like this (from the modern source at www.modern-source.com):
Stay tuned for the dining room in the next post.
